Eka Pada Vasisthasana How To → ✨ ⠀ I love how this pose used to be the most challenging balance ever. Looking back I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen trying to hold my foot. This is why it’s all the more sweeter finding moments of composure in what used to be an impossible posture. . By @ch3rlieflow

Comment from Yoga:

|||HANDSTAND TUTORIAL||| . Ex 1: HIGH PLANK AGAINST THE WALL -Place hands on the ground and walk the feet up. Be far enough away so that your body is in a plank position -Stack your shoulders over the wrists and activate your fingers -Engage your core and press down into the ground *This exercise will help you develop the shoulder, wrist, and arm strength you need for handstand* Ex 2: PIKE HANDSTAND -With your feet on the wall, begin to walk your hands back. -You want to engage your bandhas here as your hips move over your shoulders and your shoulders stack over your wrists. -Press down the ground really grip your fingers *This pose is HARD but it will give you more security than practicing free handed hand stands because you're on the wall, while still gaining the strength so you can feel more comfortable in a proper handstand* Ex 3: PIKE HANDSTAND (LEG LIFT) -In your pike handstand against the wall, engage your bandhas and lift one leg. -You will begin to learn to balance here. Trust yourself and your strength. -When your hips move over your shoulders it can be scary because you feel like you are going to fall but this is where you need to find your center, so don't be afraid. Trust yourself. Trust your strength. -Once you feel safe and confident enough you can lift one leg, than the other. Move slowly, stay controlled. Cart wheel out of it, it's the safest way to come out. *Doing handstands on the wall while you are facing it is much more effective than facing away from the wall. You are learning to control your entry and your landing while building strength and getting comfortable in proper alignment* Ex 4: HANDSTAND FACING THE WALL -Once you can hold your pike handstand for more that 10 Seconds and you feel strong in that, that's a great indicator that you can move on.. -Walk your hands back and feet up the wall -Tuck in your lower belly and look in between the hands -You can hold here or slightly flex the foot so you can come away and not rely on the wall -Although you are on the wall, stay stacked. Ex 5: HANDSTAND -Come back to your pike handstand -Lift one leg and try to bring your other leg to meet it! Hope this helps some of you . By @kaylameraki

Comment from Yoga:

We have a tendency to stop breathing when ever we dealing with a complicated asana or sequence... we also do it while we don’t practice , for example when we are alarmed by something. There’s a good reason why so much of the practice is dedicate to the Breathe... and if to be honest the last thing that I learned in my practice was to breathe correctly. once the breathing goes along with the practice It’s like magic. . Everyone starts somewhere different, and no matter where you start, we want to help get you to where you are going!🙏🏻❤️ Share this with someone to inspire them! . Thanks for sharing @yogavered . What is your yoga dream? Mine was a inversions. A handstand was something I didn’t even dream of because I had such weak arms and shoulders, and just the thought of falling from it the wrong way kept me from trying. But during my yoga journey I’ve come to realize that my body can do more than I ever gave it credit for. I know what you’re about to ask me -HOW- . The answer is -ALONE 🤗- for 3 years, practicing against the wall, practicing at the beach, practicing on the grass, and falling over and over again, and again. . And so many times I told myself ‘heck I aint gonna pull this one through’, but I still kept on trying, because I didn’t had anything to lose. . Today I can stand on my hands, and that feels pretty awesome. . Follow @flexible for more!!

HOW TO Modify your FORWARD FOLD ✨ Uttasana 🕉 This picture is showing an option for you to do if you have tight hamstrings and tight low back and find yourself "hanging" or rounding a lot in your low back - which is not good! 😣. What to do instead: * I suggest focusing on lengthening your spine which takes the pressure out of the low back and helps you in improving your posture and strength, all while still improving your flexibility. * Think of your front body and back body: front body 👉🏼 think of reaching the heart forward, ribs knitting together, and lower belly pulling in and up towards spine. Back body 👉🏼 shoulder blades squeeze slightly together to draw the shoulders down the back, lengthen the spine and low back, and slightly squeeze the glutes / outer hips to support and strengthen the pose. * Breathe deeply and completely, 5-10x, in and out through your nose 👃 not your 👄. * Hands are resting lightly on your shins, knees, or thighs. - By @actionjacquelyn

Comment from Yoga:

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how MAGNIFICENT our bodies are? 🙇🏻‍♀️🤯 Despite what they look like — what they DO every minute of every day is mind blowing . . PS: two fun transitions here: . 💥 Warrior 3 to standing head-to-knee pose and back to Warrior 3 moving only the non-standing leg — POW! Harder than it seems! . 🔥 go to fish pose / matsyasana from bridge (skip the headstand wheel thing if you like) — I find it a nice alternative to lifting up on the elbows first and then dropping the head back . . First time snake!!! 🎉 Yesterday was @niamillani’s first time trying this position 😍 in the last 6 months Nia has improved SO much. She came in with a lot of flexibility, but really needed to work on her active flexibility and supporting strength. She works SUPER hard in and out of class, and her hard work is paying off so much!! So proud of you, Nia!! 💛🎉 DISCLAIMER: DO NOT push people like this 🙅🏼‍♀️ This can be an *extremely* dangerous position if done incorrectly, or if your body is not properly prepared. So please, don’t tag your friends asking them to push you like this. If you do not have a proper Contortion coach saying you are able to do this and guiding you through it, don’t try it. 🙏🙏🙏 . by @catie.brier.contortion . . . #trainingwithbrier #contortiontraining #notyoga
