How to get more from 3 core chest exercises... Exercise 1: Dips Dips are awesome for outer chest development, here are some hacks on how to do them for better results... Take a wider grip so the pecs get a bigger stretch. This also stops the triceps from contributing so much, making it a more isolated exercise. Get enough depth, lowering yourself down as far as you can without straining the shoulder, so more muscle fibers get activated. When pushing back up from the bottom, use this as an opportunity to tense the pecs really hard - this gives more of a squeeze, so the muscle gets broken down more. Stay upright, this makes it much more focused on the pecs and it will make it harder as well... Just work through it and really work the angle. Exercise 2: Dumbbell Flys Dumbbell flys are such an awesome isolation exercise for the pecs, here are some ways to make it even better... Grip the dumbbells higher up on the handle (off center), this will immediately make the pecs tense up under tension Squeeze your shoulder blades together and get your chest up in the air, stop your shoulders from rounding so the pecs are always doing the work Get a training partner to gently apply pressure on the inside of your arms, during the eccentric, so that more of the inner chest muscle fibers get broken down Exercise 3: Flat Dumbbell Press This is probably the most important compound exercise for building a big chest, you can get better results by doing the following... Don't lockout completely at the top, this will just work the triceps. Keep the tension on the pecs by stopping just short of the lockout. When pushing the weight up, tense the pecs, pushing your biceps towards each other - this will make the muscles work so much harder. Keep the scapulas squeezed together, pushed far back into the bench at all times so the shoulders can't become rounded. Test your form and technique when doing these exercises, using these points for guidance...
