I’ve been frantically celebrating my birthday in crazy waves of sinking depression and absolute manic elation! I’ve been posting a lot of ‘happy’ photos to my story and I have for the most part been really enjoying my birthday month and my joyous moments in honour of mum. • It just also felt really important to point out that seeking joy in pain doesn’t mean you’re happy all the time. Grief is a forever thing and it really is ok not to be ok. • For anyone out there experiencing more bad days than good or serious painful guilt when they have moments of happiness? That’s ok ❤️ keep going! Sometimes I get frustrated that I dont have the proper vocabulary to express what I feel. There simply are no words to explain the depth of it. How deep it goes, how bad it stings... but also how beautiful it feels, and how it radiates through my cells. The words do not exist, but still I try. There are times when something doesnt feel good, but it doesnt feel bad either. It just feels. It feels through my whole body. There are times when I feel a mixture of happiness, sadness, grief, and acceptance all at once...but maybe that's a different feeling altogether? Maybe there is no word for that feeling... It's like all the feelings are talking to each other and sorting itself out and I'm just witnessing it. Allowing it to happen, just observing... but at the same time not really knowing... Letting it unfold. And then I come out on the other side often wanting to question and dig deeper...the thing I'm starting to learn is that sometimes you just let it be without question or definition. 🔙 Throw back ☀️ . . . Your mental health is as important as your physical. It's important to know when to take a step back and take the time to stop yourself from burning out. Progressive relaxation is a way of reducing any built up tension from your head to the tip of your toes! Dr. Patricia Farrell, an Anxiety and Panic specialist, says that by breathing deeply while tensing muscles, we can loosen all those tough knots and twists that build up in our muscles. Take a deep breath in through your nose, tensing that particular muscle group (i.e. your hands). Hold the breath for 5 seconds and slowly breathe out through your mouth while relaxing the tensed muscles. Repeat until you’ve gone from your toes to your head.
