Back/Tris this morning. Had some fun and got to shake things up because we had to train around my training partners partial hamstring tear. Injuries don’t mean you have to completely stop 🛑, just Be smart and work around as best you can without aggravating .

4 Days Out: . Flat as hell at the moment but it’s all part of the depleting process before loading. You MUST just take a step back and put your ego aside. . Training right now is about contraction and bringing blood into the muscles: No PRS, no crazy intensity work. This close to the show you can’t build muscle and pushing to the extremes (like I love to do) will only lead to injury and work against you. This for me is the hardest part- I love training like a madman but we gotta do what we gotta do! . Exercise, movement, strength training and rehab have to be all rolled into ONE iterative, malleable, dynamic process that was consistently present, but looked differently as I needed it to!⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ 2️⃣Joy. It has to be FUN! I’m not saying it won’t be hard, challenging or sometimes monotonous, but you ultimately have to find ways to feel JOY!!⁣⁣ For me that relies heavily on #90s jams, dance breaks, playfulness, incorporating worship into my training and the building of some badass skills.⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ 3️⃣Image and expectations. It was totally ok if I grew bigger or didn’t fit into any conventional physique fitness box. What I’m about to say will likely surprise you! I was afraid of lifting, particularly lifting heavy. I’m still a little hesitant about it when I go up in weight. I actually prefer not to know how much I’m lifting until after I’m done because I’ll convince myself I can’t do it if it seems like too much. Just ask my trainer @primeintensitytraining . So I totally get it if lifting intimidates you! What helped me was getting a trainer and starting light to learn proper form, while also building my confidence at the same time. If you happen to be in the philly area and need recommendations on a trainer I'd be happy to help! . In addition to deadlifts, I'd also highly recommend learning a barbell squat. Of course, you'll want to be able to do comfortable do bodyweight squats first but a trainer can easily evaluate where you need to start. Squats are one of my favorites because they contrary to what you might think they don't just work your quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves, but also your back and core. So it's a really efficient full body exercise! . I also love that they aren't just for strength, but can greatly improve your mobility as well, particularly in your hips and ankles. Oftentimes, the added resistance of the weight can help you go lower than you could unweighted, in turn increasing range of motion. . Weighted squats can also greatly improve the health of your bones and joints. The added load will stimulate your bones to lay down more bone becoming stronger. Same goes for your ligaments.
