A Southern Reef Squid plays peek-a-boo with the camera in the nightime waters of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Squid are some of the oceans most curious and brave animals. Often marine creatures flee from the unknown or mysterious but not squid. They prefer instead to come in for a closer more inquisitive look. With huge eyes and a rapid way of reversing to escape they are always keen to investigate you be it day or night. Squid can move backwards with extreme speed thanks to their built in jet propulsion. They do this by filling the mantle cavity beneath their head with water, when the need a rapid get away they pump it out with extreme force, just like a jet ski! - - - #squid #southernreefsquid #southerncalamarisquid #cephalopod #animalart #oceanart #oceans #blackwater #diving #thewildlifebiologist #marinebiologist #marinebiology #scubadiving #wow_australia2019 #exploringaustralia #live_love_wildlife #bg_underwater #underwaterphoto #morningtonpeninsula #isotta_housings #bbcearth #abcmyphoto #wildlifeart #yourshotphotographer #divephotos #nightdiving #wildlifephotographer #naturegram #animalfacts

Grand Sea Whips (Ellisella Grandis), any of several genera of corals of the order Gorgonacea (phylum Cnidaria), characterized by a long, whiplike growth and a variety of bright colours. The “whip” consists of a colony of tiny polyps (cylindrical, stalklike forms with a mouth and eight tentacles at the upper, or free, end) that grow upon one another in a continuous single stem. Spicules, or needlelike structures, of lime embedded in the polyp body provide a firm but flexible support. #divebuddy #gorgonian • • • • Shot with Nikon in #isotta_housings #isotta_underwater_housings #PADI #paditv #divelife #underwaterphotography #underwater_world #underwaterphoto #underwaterlife #underwaterphotographer #uwphotography #scubadiverslife #scubadiving #underthesea #scubadivingmag #underwaterart #divingboard #water_of_our_world #oceanlife #seaworld #scubadive #marinebiology #seacreatures #aquaticlife #tauchen #underwatershots #underwaterimages

A cast of Spider Crabs clamber along the sandy seafloor in freshly molted bodies looking for a quick feed. Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia. These iconic and endemic Giant Spider Crabs are only found in the waters of the southern Australian coastline. They usually live in deep water but emerge every winter to gather in huge mounds to shed their shells. By coming together on mass they gain protection as the local rays and sharks that eat them can only fill their stomachs with so much crab. Recently however overfishing by amateur crab fishers has led to a sharp decline in the local and world famous Mornington Peninsula population. Numbers in excess of 10000 have been collected within the space of two weeks. If this sort of collecting continues there may well be no crab congregation in the future. It would be a shame to see the famous Blue Planet crabs dissapear! Seahorse - This shot was taken in Bali, using a tool called magic light tube! Basically it is a metal tube that is placed on the port of the underwaterhousing. It reflects the light, giving this colored, round "tube" effect. A Southern Fiddler Ray sits amongst the seaweed and seagrass of Ricketts Point Marine Park in Beaumaris, Victoria, Australia. These amazing rays are covered in a fantastic psychedelic pattern that is great to see as you swim across the underwater meadows that gra e this part of Port Phillip Bay. Their tails are just as fascinating due to the shark like fins that adorn them and have been known to frequently confuse ocean lovers. These rays are just one of the many animals that live in the waters of Port Phillip Bay and thrive in the local marine sanctuary. Throughout the year multiple species transition through the area making it a fantastic place to snorkel or dive! - - - #raysawareness #fiddlerray #ray #banjoshark #banjoray #underwaterphotographer #rickettspointmarinesanctuary #rickettspoint #beaumaris #cityofbayside #uwphotography #portphillipbay #blueplanet #abcmyphoto #abcmelbourne #snorkelling #wow_australia2019 #exploringaustralia #live_love_wildlife #melbournegram #oceangram #oceangeographic #intotheocean #bbcearth #isotta_housings #scubalicious #wildlife #oceananimals

Throwback to last Sunday's early morning dive with @mattysmithphoto @cam_mcfarlane_photo and @pearlcorker_ First image you can see the ugly side of fishing, a large fish hook still attached to this beautiful young Grey Nurse Shark. Second image is another Grey Nurse heading to the surface for a breath of fresh air.... Yes Grey Nurse Sharks will actually surface to inhale air to control their buoyancy! Third image is of a very young Horned Shark on the ocean floor. So cute!!!! Last image is of a stunning Australian Giant Cuttlefish. How good is diving in NSW!!!! 📸 Nikon D850 in Isotta Housing. @nikonaustralia @isotta_underwater_housings #isotta #isotta_housings #mynikonlife #nikon @visitnsw #nsw #australia @visitshellharbour #visitnsw #padi @tv #scuba #scubadiving #scubadivingislife #scubadivinglife @uwimages # @uwphotosociety #underwaterphoto #underwater #underwaterphotography #shark #sharkdive #sharks #ocean #oceanhero #ocean #oceanlife #sea #sealife
