Let’s discuss oils. Just some thoughts I was having on this mornings trail run 🌵Oil, in any form, wether it’s olive oil, canola, butter, coconut oil is not a health food or contains any necessary nutrients. Just 1 tablespoon of oil has 120 calories and 14g of fat. People rarely use just 1 little tablespoon. Think about it, a little oil to make each of your meals, topping a salad, maybe some butter on your vegetables or bread. You could very well be eating an extra 300-500 calories a day of pure fat. But wait, I thought olive oil was good for us?? Olive oil is the better of oils if you have to choose, but there’s nothing in it that your body needs. If you’re having trouble dropping some weight, take a look at all the sneaky calories that you might be consuming in oils, condiments, dressings, how you’re preparing meals..etc. Just by eliminating those extra couple hundred calories or more, can lead to some weight loss. And sorry to break it to everyone who’s loading up their bullet proof coffee with butter and coconut oil, it’s not doing you any magical weight loss favors. The “fat burning” effect you think you’re getting from the medium chain fatty acids (MCTs), isn’t doing anything but adding more calories to your day. Unless you are burning more calories than you’re taking in and are in a calorie deficit, that fat is getting stored just as any other fat or extra calories from any other food would. Chickpea Bolognese 🍝 via @plantbasedjane ........ Ingredients 1 tablespoon olive oil 2-3 garlic cloves, minced 1/2 small yellow onion, diced 1 carrot, diced 1 tsp dried thyme 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper 1 15oz can of chickpeas 1 15oz can of tomato sauce 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or coconut sugar, vegan cane sugar) salt & pepper to taste Instructions 🔹Begin by prepping your ingredients. mince your garlic, dice your onion and thinly dice your carrot. Mash chickpeas. 🔹Heat up a skillet on medium and add your oil. When the oil is shimmering, add in your salt, pepper, thyme, carrots and onions and cook for 3-5 minutes or until your onions become translucent and fragrant. 🔹Add in your garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Add your chickpeas and cook for another 2-3 minutes. 🔹Pour in your tomato sauce and reduce heat to a low setting. Mix occasionally for 15-20 minutes or until the sauce thickens up. Once thickened, add in nutritional yeast and mix. I cannot even begin to tell y'all how much I miss noodles...
