Are your glutes as flat as a sheet of paper? Are you tired of having Pancake Ass Syndrome? Glute bridges are a great way to load your hips in a manner that’s hard to replicate otherwise. Why do we care about loading muscles in different ranges of motion to begin with? — The basis of exercise selection within a well-designed program is dictated in large part by the portion of the movement that is overloaded or biased most heavily. Each exercise has unique characteristics but for the most part, these biases can emphasize the shortened, lengthened, or mid-range positions of a muscle. The program I’m currently following utilizes primarily the lengthened and shortened positions strategically to push muscle growth. — Post-exhaustion is technique that can take a few forms but the general premise is to superset a target muscle in a compound movement and then follow with an isolation movement to train the target muscle further. These glute bridges above were part of a superset scheme to target glutes in the shortened position following some stationary lunges. — I promise if you learn to do these properly that you will give up doing glute kickbacks, step ups on the assisted dip, and whatever other tomfoolery that has flooded Instagram in abundance. Remember: these are glute bridges, NOT power hip thrusts meant to get your gym crush’s attention from across the floor. Always remain in complete control of your weight and spend some time in the squeeze! Notice my spine stays neutral with all the movement is occurring from my hip hinge.
