I am a Power Girl. 2017 almost broke me. Not only was it the toughest time I’ve ever had professionally, but in romantic relationships as well. May and October gave way to traumatic experiences with men that ended up pushing me out of my body for a portion of time. I had been disrespected by partners in a way that affected the foundations of trust. I didn’t know how to cope or what to do. In the end, the only thing I could do was figure out an outlet to be free and to heal. I ended up writing and self-publishing a poetry novel full of my emotions, experiences, hopes, fears, and wishes. It was the most honest I’d been with myself about what I had been going through. There are so many other ways my story could’ve gone but I chose to rise above. To me being a Power Girl takes more than physical strength, it takes mental and emotional will power. Every time I dance, run, lift weights, or have an honest and uncomfortable conversation with someone, I am exemplifying strength and power. Those experiences have taught me what I deserve in life and what I refuse to settle for. I really debated whether I should apply for the #iamapowergirl opportunity from @popflex_active and @blogilates because my greatest strength has also been my biggest insecurity. About 6 years ago I was diagnosed with an auto immune disorder, rheumatoid arthritis. Where basically my immune system attacks my own joint causing for them to get inflamed and weak. I can’t say I was always strong about it, I even felt ashamed. I felt like it made me feel less of a person. But through so many struggles and having my family’s specially my mum by my side I was able to realize that having this disease doesn’t stop me from accomplishing my dreams. At times working out and even simple things can be very difficult but I don’t let that stop me. And reading others stories about their struggles and how they were able to overcome them gave me the courage to post my story. I want to let everyone know that there is no limit to what you can do. I found a safe haven through workouts especially through over the years and if I can inspire one person with my story then my mission is complete. 🙏. Have you ever tried cleaning smoothie out of car carpet? I have! On my way to work this morning I took a turn too quickly and dumped my entire breakfast all over my lap and my car floor. I was already in a hurry, and this did not help. Honestly, I was so mad and it felt like what else could go wrong. Before I would of used that as an excuse to just buy a breakfast on the go and be upset. But I realized I could take 10 minutes, change my clothes, make a new smoothie and nothing would change. It was going to be ok. So that’s what I did. I promised myself at the beginning of the year I was going to work out at least three days a week. And I haven’t broken that promise. Even if it means working out after a 12 hour work day that started with smoothie in your lap. DeadBug Exercise LEVEL 1⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The DeadBug is a fantastic way to improve core muscle strength and endurance. It’s also a safe, easy and effective exercise to do when you have acute low back pain. One reason why it is so good to do when you have a sore back is that it is so easy to find a progression that is challenging enough to be effective. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When you are doing any of these progressions make sure you follow these guidelines: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - Make sure you are actively squashing your lower back into the ground. A good way to focus on this is to start each set with a deliberate posterior tilt through your pelvis (you can see this at the start of each video!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - Move as fast as you can control. This exercise is effective when doing slow or fast repetitions. Nothing could have prepared me for the challenges of taking on a rescue dog. While I knew Captain was the dog for us as soon as I laid eyes on him, I couldn’t have imagined the amount of work and patience it would take to get to this point. When we first brought him home, Captain was so scared and nervous and didn’t know how to interact with people and other dogs. It was a constant battle with house breaking, nipping/mouthing, chewing everything in sight, and pulling on the leash. I would be lying if I said that there weren’t times when I cried and questioned whether or not we were the right family for him. But all of that frustration only served to show me that i can do hard things and that beauty can be born from pain. Whole Captain is far from perfect, he is now a totally different dog from day one and I wouldn’t trade him for the world. Now, in the spirit of doing hard things, he joins me for my nightly @blogilates workout and gives me that little extra motivation as I prep for our wedding next year ❤️ #iamapowergirl # #rescuedog #rescuedogsofinstagram #bridalbootcamp #icandohardthings
