Learn from your experiences. Happy Monday 🌱 Well it was a hot weekend even for a Burmese that grew up near the Equator🤗As hot and humid as it was, Dan and I had a great weekend connecting with nature. We had no worries about the heat nor the thunder storms ~ it was us, ice-cream and bugs. It gave me a new perspective about how easily we allow things to influence us . There is too much information and dis-information for the human brain to process. When we allow our senses to flow freely with how wholesome it is to take refuge in the nature _ near a creek , on the grass , appreciating the breeze that worked so hard to crack through the stubborn heat, the sunset that glorified the sky in the midst of heavy , dark clouds ... allowing all that to sink in and letting it become part of us , we are practicing singleness of mind. Singleness of mind, as explained in the Practical Neuroscience of Buddha’s Brain, involves the unification of awareness, grounded in a deepening absorption in the object of attention. When thoughts are minimal and mind is very steady , we feel very present with a growing sense of equanimity. When we drop the past and future , we renounce worrying , planning and fantasizing and we become content with the present moment . It feels utterly peaceful . We can nurture that experience and allow ‘peace’ to piece together our scattered thoughts , directionless purposes and empty actions. Let it flow through everything we (want to) experience and explore. Let’s kick off this week with a gentle reminder that everything we desire can be manifested by setting pure intentions. The more present we are , the more clarity we receive and the more aligned we feel. And when we are fully aligned, we are able to have highest concentration. There are moments in life when all you can do is sit, wait, observe, breathe. I love coming here: the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, one of my Happy Places in the Cities. On your first visit you realize how many incredible and different nooks and crannies it has. (I feel like I’m 80 when I say “nook and cranny” but I haven’t found anything better). I wish it was closer to me, but I’m happy to make the drive across town when I have the time (and I had planned for this to be a true “day off” from any work). It was the perfect summer day, 77 and a breeze. Just down the road from Prince’s Paisley Park (this was one of his favorite places, too 💜). I often wish lately I had someone to share it with, but the quiet and solitude also help me recharge for the week ahead. Meditation 🦋⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When I first heard that we would be doing 30 minutes of meditation 🧘‍♀️ every morning on YTT, followed by 20 minutes of pranayama, I was like whhhaattt 🙈 I won’t be able to do that! But I did and now I love it 🥰 it’s one of my favourite parts of the day! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Here is how to do it:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ✨Pick a comfortable position 🧘‍♀️.⁣⁣ ✨Close your eyes 😌 or soften your gaze.⁣⁣ ✨Focus your attention on your senses, what can you see 👁 hear 👂 smell👃 taste 👅 feel 🖐?⁣⁣ ✨Now focus your attention inward, maybe on your breath 🌬 visualise its journey as it goes in and out.⁣⁣ ✨When a thought pops into your mind 💭 observe it, as if from a distance 👀 and let it pass by 🌊 without engaging with it.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Mediation is not about controlling your thoughts 😌💭 it is about learning how to not let your thoughts control you 🤯. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It is a skill that takes time to build and so don’t be disheartened or judgemental when it’s hard at first, or after the 100’th time! Life is so unpredictable, and right now we are just thinking about life. We are really focusing on enjoying everything that God gives. God gives us a lot of good things and a lot of sorrows too, we have to take both. Some people are going through sorrows and some people are going through blessings. This was a weekend full of motherhood, cooking, juggling, and celebrating. I'm exhausted and jubilant and chock full of gratitude. This is as good as it gets, folks. All of that stuff rolled into two days... And I am experiencing it all. Feeling it. Present for it. All of it. Every minute. Every day. Trying not to miss a moment. This girl is 9. The other end of the line is 23. It's all a flash. I've caught myself observing this one a lot lately. She's at that place now where I can her at 17 and beyond. And I can't slow it down. And with 3 grown now, I very aware it's fleeting. My words here don't do any of it justice. All I can really do is just keep showing up. Just keep showing up. Eyes and heart wide open. Every minute.
